Summary: Up until a few days ago, nothing extraordinary had ever happened in ten year old Josh Wunderkind’s life - except eating a whole pot of pasta by himself. But that all changed after a mammoth-sized bird hit him smack on the face with a glob of neon green bird poop, triggering his superhuman Wunderkind ability and leaving him with the responsibility of caring for a baby bird he named Max. Now Josh was just like his older brother and twin sister Madison-super extraordinary! But what Josh didn't realize was that being superhuman wasn't all fun and games.
And things only got more complex in Josh’s life when his two siblings and a couple neighborhood friends persuade him to lead a super crime-solving, neighborhood news team—the Gumshoe News Crew. But not before they agree on the Super Secret and complete Gumshoe Boot Camp.
Find out what the Super Secret is. Will the Gumshoe News Crew complete boot camp? Or will Josh let his team down?

My Review
The Wunderkind family members each have an extraordinary ability, all except 10 years old Josh. Until he swallowed a globe of neon green bird poop. Major YUCKS!
I love the training exercise that big brother Jake set up as a boot camp to train the Gumshoe News Crew members. It looked so simple but I can image the fun they kids will have while following the map and counting the steps. No wonder they take their time to savour the treasure of jelly beans, it was definitely hard work! This is something kids of our time should learn to do it, have loads of fun playing outdoor!
This is a fun and humorous book to read, the illustrations in between some of the pages are a plus point too. This will appeal to kids who are just starting out to read chapter books, the simple and funny illustrations will make them want to continue to read the story.
After reading for a while about the gang preparing themselves at the boot camp and making sure Josh has got enough training for his new special power I was expecting them to solve a crime but none of that. I was left with a hollow feeling and I almost blurted out loudly in the crowded train "Huh? That's it?" in a disappointed tone. HOWEVER, this shows that it is a book that you can't put down and definitely looking forward to the next book!
Gumshoe! Gumshoe! Gumshoe!
